Romance Writers Weekly

Standard

Hello and welcome to our hop. Hope your Tuesday is going great! And thanks so much for taking the time to join us. It means so much!

Here is this week’s challenge:

If you could be friends with anyone who is alive today, who would you choose and why?

I am a  writer, so I think the choice is pretty obvious:  Stephen King. Not necessarily because of his choice of genres, although I do love some of them, gore and all. It’s because he happens to be a fantastic writer. And prolific. It’s clear he has a great time writing and he seems to take everything in stride.

The story goes that “Carrie” was rejected like thirty times and he finally just threw it in the trash. His wife retrieved it and he kept going. And isn’t that the key to success? To keep going no matter what.

His latest, “Fairy Tale” is a very different take on Grimm. And I loved every page. His insights into human nature, so evident in “’Salem’s Lot” and “Misery” shine through and make me actually gasp with admiration.

In fact, it was “’Salem’s Lot” that made me want to be a writer. I wanted to learn how to look at the world through an objective lens while still maintaining my voice, just as he does. Now, don’t misunderstand. I am certainly not comparing myself to the master here. But I am grateful that I could read his work and see the possibilities in my own.

So, yes, if I could be friends with anyone alive, I would have to choose him. And maybe, if I was very lucky, he’d be happy to be my friend, too. Even though I’m just a grasshopper in comparison.

Now let’s pop over to the wonderful Jenna Da Sie and read about her choice…
