Hello and welcome! So glad you’re here! This week’s challenge comes from the amazing Dani Jace:

Villains: Literary, TV/Movie or even real life – Who do you love as a villain and why. Who do you despise and why.

Villains! Some of my favorites are in movies. And, my favorite of all time is Alan Rickman, in so many of his roles. “DieHard” – well you just love to hate him. And as the Sheriff of Nottingham in “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves”…did you ever see a better (or more hammy and prolonged) death scene. That alone was worth watching the movie. And in the Harry Potter movies you just never knew. Was he an object of pity or was he truly evil? Regardless, he was always entertaining to watch!

And who do I despise as a villain? Christoph Waltz as Hans Landa in “Inglourious Basterds” is the penultimate amoral monster. The very incarnation of the worst aspect of a man. So cold, so calculating, so devoid of any emotion.  I hated him, but at the same time, he was mesmerizing in his portrayal of such a terrible person. To elicit such a reaction is a measure of the actor’s impressive talent. So, I hated the villain, but I have immense respect for the actor.

Villains are fascinating and their appearance makes our heroes (and heroines) shine in contrast. And they always shake things up, which is wonderful!

BoundMorocco_eBook_HighRes (3) Lots of villains in this story!

Now let’s hop over to the wonderful Brenda Margriet and hear about her favorite villains.

  1. What a fun post, Leslie! I was just talking about Alan Rickman with my hubby this morning. We were trying to think of a movie where he DIDN’T play a bad guy. (Or at least a misunderstood guy).
