Welcome to our Valentine’s Day hop!
This week I asked the question:
What makes Valentine’s Day so special for you?
One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
And that’s what this day is about. No, not the dying. But the willingness to give all for love. And to put others first.
Love is said to be the most powerful force in the universe. Obviously, we as romance authors believe it. We write about it and talk about it and live it every day. And today, we celebrate it.
Hearts are everywhere and flowers and declarations of undying devotion. Proposals and weddings and gifts …ahhhh. Isn’t that just wonderful!
And that’s what makes it so incredible. A day to concentrate on loving each other. And what could be more special than that?
Now, let’s hop back to the top of the list and see what the fabulous A.S. Fenichel thinks about Valentine’s Day.
